Stylized red rams fighting in a fiery red-orange scene, with a glowing pale lamb standing the fray.

~Aries, The Child of War~

By Saige “Mykie” Rasmussen

Oh lamb.

Little lamb….

Born of blood.

Born of ichor.

A lamb to slaughter.

Flames lapping up the coagulated viscera of youthful ignorance.

The bleating cries of young gone astray.

Scraped knees and bruises from nowhere.

The first taste of thick red iron on your tongue when you tripped as a kid

along the neighborhood sidewalk.

Little lamb you must grow horns.

Clamber up the mountain and leave ashes in your wake.

Follow the embers of your persistence in the death of your youth, little lamb.

Grind your teeth as you chew through the umbilical cord.

Rip into the world and cry, wail and scream.

Listen to the crackling fire in your chest and roar.

Listen to your bones crack against the world and revel in its breaking.

Do not let your blood be drunk by lazy indifference.

Do not let your slaughter be in vain.

Feel your knuckles crush into the bully that is life and laugh.

They’re bigger.

They’re clawed, toothed and hungry…

Take the fucking shot anyway.

Oh lamb.

Oh little lamb….

Aries is a fascinating sign. The first of the zodiac, starts March 21st and ends on April 19th. They are the babies, the fresh new eyes of the world. They are curious, intuitive and often very bodily aware. Naturally athletic and determined. Competitive, passionate and bright. Ever protective and action oriented. Yet they are ruled by Mars. Planet of aggression, planet of war. To me, Aries feels like wandering into the woods at night and hearing cackling laughter between the trees. It’s like you stumble upon a bonfire party, watching the bright flames flicker like a guiding light in the dark.

They are a stark juxtaposition. The innocent child of war. The softness of youthful exploration vs. the hardened wisdom of adulthood. Their journey is that of a soldier or pioneer. Ambitious and honorable, naivety bleeding from every pore before they enter their first battle. Staring at the top of the mountain with focused wonder. A conquering spirit. It’s that same young soldier now commander with a grizzled grin and scars to match each and every war. It is the respect and great wisdom gained through pain. It is the pioneer atop the peak, nearly starving but still smiling with the satisfaction of accomplishment.

All in all look to the Aries in your life whether a person or placement within your own chart to give you a pep talk. Look for them when you need that oh so passionate, youthful confidence and when you need a grizzled, almost cynical endurance.
